2019 Guidelines and Information for Artists
Dear Artist:

 

Thank you for your interest in the St. Catherine of Bologna Patron of the Arts Association's 20th Annual Festival of the Arts. Our Exhibition and Sale encompasses Art, Photography and Poetry featuring Musical Performances, Poetry Readings and a Silent Auction. Please read the attached guidelines carefully and return your application, along with your fee, no later than February 20, 2019 to our mailing address:

  • Entries are accepted on a first-come, first served basis until our maximum number is met. Photography and Art hanging fees for adult artists are $45.00 for 3 entries. Check the Guidelines below for further details.

  • Drop off day of your artwork for all entries is Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at St. Catherine of Bologna Parish Center,112 Erskine Road (right side of the upper parking lot), Ringwood, NJ. 07456. If you cannot make it on March 3rd, please have someone drop it off for you. Please also consider donating additional original artwork to our Silent Auction.

New for 2019:

  • To celebrate our 20 years, prior winners may choose to exhibit an earlier winning piece as one of their three entries for our special Prior Winners Spotlight section. This entry however will not be judged but may be offered for sale. Please check the Prior Winner Spotlight box on your application.

  • In memory of one of our beloved artists, award winning artist Robena Jerman, we will be featuring some of her works in our upstairs Hallway Gallery outside of the Poetry Gallery. We will miss her and wish to extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and fellow artists.

  • Once again, we will host our Artist Meet-and-Greet, a private event for all participating artists. We hope you will plan to attend our expanded interactive two-hour Artist Meet-and-Greet event on Saturday March 9th from 1-3 PM, prior to doors opening to admit the general public. We Celebrate the Light that You Are!

Please note that we provide a designated area for artists to display business cards. Cards may not be displayed in any other area and should be submitted with your entry at drop-off on March 3rd.

 

Print sales will no longer be allowed, but photographers may offer duplicate framed works, after the sale of the original, at the same price. Please remember the artist bears the responsibility of delivering or shipping the item as soon as possible after the exhibition. The same 25% donation applies.

Eligibility

This exhibition is open to all professional, amateur and student photographers, artists, and poets submitting their original works.

Acrylic, Digital, Drawing, Mixed Media, Oils, Pastels, Watrecolor, Scupture, and Other. 

 

Fees

  • Adult Artists
  • Art, Sculpture, and/or Photography - Three (3) Entry Maximum - $45
    In addition, Adult Artists submitting Art, Sculpture and/or Photography may also submit up to 3 poems at a discounted rate of $5 per poem ($15 maximum).
    Poetry Only - Three (3) Entry Maximum - $30

  • High School Artists (Grades 9-12)
  • Art, Sculpture, Photography and/or Poetry - Two (2) Entry Maximum -  $15

  • Student Artists (Grades K-8)

    Art, Sculpture, Photography or Poetry - One (1) Entry Maximum - $5

In addition to your maximum entries submitted for judging, please consider donating to our Silent Auction. Identify any Silent Auction donations on the identifying label.

No applications will be accepted or included in the program after February 20, 2019.


Entry Preparations and Requirements

New for 2019: Prior winners may choose to exhibit an earlier winning piece as 1 of their 3 entries. This entry will not be judged but may be offered for sale. Please note the prior winner on your application.

Artist Biography - We encourage artists to submit a "brief" artist biography to be printed in our program. Please provide a brief, 75 word maximum bio in the online application by February 20, 2018.

All hanging entries, Art, Photo, Poetry & Children, must be professionally presented and suitable for hanging, including framing and matting (all photo & poetry), gallery wrapped, Plexiglas, etc. All work must be ready for hanging, complete with appropriate wire hanging support (i.e. screw eyes with wire).

 

Each entry must have our identifying label (click here) - or with the paper application, filled out completely and attached to the back of the entries. All work must be ready for hanging, complete with wire hanging support (i.e. screw eyes with wire, etc.)

 

 

No Tape, No String, No Clips. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Note: A fee of $10.00 will be imposed to supply wiring materials at drop-off (not for metal). In addition

  • There is a  50 Lb. weight limit on all pieces, including sculpture. No Applications will be accepted or included in the program after February 20th, 2019.

  • Entries may not be removed until the end of the exhibition.

  • Due to pastoral guidelines, we cannot accept any entry containing inappropriate or suggestive material, We reserve the right to reject pieces that depict nudity, violence, etc.

  • All entries must be picked up on Sunday March 11th between 3:15PM and 4:15PM. No exceptions. We will not be responsible for artwork left behind.

 

Please print out, complete and attach the labels found on this website to the back of each submission. Please choose your piece’s category carefully, as it will be hung with and judged in the category you designate. See list of categories at bottom of label page.

Judging

  • Awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mention in each category. There will be a Judge’s Choice Award given by each judge.

  • High School and Adult Poetry will be judged separately.

  • Student K-8 entries are not judged. For Students (K-8), a Judges Choice Award will be given by each Judge for this age group.  

  • The Spiritual "Celebrating The Light That You Are" Award will be selected by our committee for the piece of art, photography and poetry that best depicts a Celebrating The Light  theme.

  • Silent Auction submissions are not judged.

  • Winners will receive notification via email as soon as possible after the judging if your piece(s) of artwork has won an award. Winners are encouraged  to supply a digital image (jpeg)  of thier winning that piece(s)  so we may post it on this website.

Sales

A 25% minimum donation is required on all sales and any commissioned work. Artists whose works have sold will receive a check within approximately 45 days..

 

Liability

All submissions will be handled with reasonable care. St. Catherine of Bologna Patron of the Arts Association shall not be responsible for damage, loss or theft. Submitting an entry in this exhibition shall imply agreement on the part of photographer, artist, poet, or sculptor with all of the conditions outlined in this prospectus. Winning entries will be posted on our website in non-reproducible form.
